Maria Conti becomes Maserati’s first female head of motorsport
Maria Conti will be taking up the role of Head of Maserati Corse, the brand’s motorsport division, after returning from maternity leave from the 1st October.
Conti previously served as Maserati’s Chief Communication Officer and has over 20 years’ experience in communication in the industry.
She replaces the outgoing Giovanni Sgro, who led Maserati Corse for two years as the brand joined Formula E for the 2022/23 campaign, achieving a sixth-place finish in the teams’ championship that season and finishing eighth in 2023/24. Driver Maximilian Günther won two races with the team during that period, in Jakarta and Tokyo.
Maserati also joined the GT2 European Series under Sgro’s tenure, first racing in the final round of the 2023 series with the MC20 GT2 run by LP Racing, which qualified on pole and finished second in race one and seventh in race two. Four different teams are set to run with the MC20 in 2024, with LP Racing’s pair of Leonardo Gorini and Carlo Tamburini achieving three wins across four rounds so far.
With her appointment, Conti becomes the first woman to lead Maserati’s motorsport activities, with an ambition to help “renew the brand’s competitive spirit.”
