It’s not yet been two months since the new Lotus Emira was revealed but Lotus marches on. A new factory and a slate of new models have been announced since then. Now, the Emira is ready to go racing. Meet the hand-built race-ready Lotus Emira GT4.

The car has been developed in conjunction with RML Group and follows in the footsteps of the highly successful Evora GT4. The Evora has wins in British GT, the Dubai 24 Hours, the Barcelona 24 Hours, the European GT Championship, the Sepang 12 Hours and the Pirelli World Challenge.

The GT4 will use the 3.5-litre supercharged V6 engine, in this case producing around 400PS, sending power to the rear wheels via a six-speed xTrac paddle-shift transmission. The in-car telemetry comes courtesy of Motec, with data logging and a bespoke motorsport loom. Cocooning racers will be an FIA-spec roll cage and they’ll be strapped in by a six-point harness.

Gavan Kershaw, Director of Vehicle Attributes for Lotus, has been hard at work on the development of the Emira GT4. “The all-new chassis on which the Emira has been developed is the perfect starting point for a high-performance race car,” he said. “Everyone at Lotus is so excited to be returning to world motorsport and to be doing so with such a competitive race car.”

As the car sits now, it’s a concept but development of the production-spec car continues apace. A handful of Emira GT4s are expected to be delivered in 2022, before capacity is ramped up for 2023.
