Ken Block gets an EV driving lesson

24th July 2020

In retrospect it should have been pretty obvious who the driver was for the very smoky press shots we saw of the wild Mustang Mach-E 1400 earlier this week.

Created as a test bed for future performance and competition electric vehicles, the Mach-E 1400 has no fewer than seven electric motors which provide a combined 1,400PS  (1,029 kW). The plethora of motors means that the amount of power, how and to which wheels it can be delivered is hugely adjustable, allowing the car to be set up for circuit racing, drag strips or, as in this video, turning tyres into their component particles. It also sounds, to paraphrase Obi-Wan Kenobi, ‘as if a million voices cried out in terror’. But we love it.

Built by RTR, the video shows Ken Block being given a tutorial in instant torque by development driver Vaughn Gittin Jr. Block then returns the favour by allowing Gittin Jr. some play time in the Hoonicorn.
