Joan Mir joins Honda for 2023

The Spanish rider has signed a two-year deal with MotoGP’s most successful team, forming an all-Spanish partnership that Honda will no doubt hope can return the team to winning ways. Honda currently sits bottom of the constructors’ standings in 2022, with the factory Repsol outfit languishing in ninth in the teams’ championship.

Mir previously raced for Honda during his Moto3 days, claiming the title in 2017 before making his MotoGP debut with Suzuki in 2019. He won his only MotoGP crown with the Japanese squad in the truncated 2020 season, but has enjoyed mixed results in 2022 amid confirmation that Suzuki will leave MotoGP at the end of the year.

With seven races to go in 2022, Mir faces a period on the sidelines after suffering a foot fracture at last weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix.

This announcement fills the final vacant factory team seat for the 2023 season, with only four spaces left on next years’ grid at Tech3 GasGas, VR46 Ducati, RNF Aprilia and LCR Honda.
