Iron Dames reach new milestone as FIA awards Bovy Silver status
The FIA has awarded Sarah Bovy Silver status – a milestone for the Iron Dames all-female racing team – in a fresh round of driver classifications for the forthcoming endurance season.
Her achievement follows the team’s first victory of 2024, which came at the 4 Hours of Imola in the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) in a Porsche 911 driven by Bovy, Rahel Frey, and Michelle Gatting, and a fifth-place finish in the GT3 at the Le Mans 24 Hours.
Bovy’s success means Frenchwoman Celia Martin becomes the team’s Bronze driver. She’s already shown promise in the Michelin Le Mans Cup, sitting sixth in the drivers’ championship, chalking up a podium finish and one pole position.
Bovy and Martin race alongside a team of Iron Dames that includes Michelle Gatting and Rahel Frey. Gatting was the first woman to win the Ferrari Cup and finished fourth in her class at the 2023 24hr of Le Mans. Before joining the Iron Dames, Swiss-born Frey raced for Audi in DTM and was the first woman to win a German Formula 3 race, in 2007.
Founded in 2018 by Deborah Mayer, the Iron Dames project is committed to promoting the inclusivity of women in motorsport and nurturing future talent in the junior categories.
