Lamborghini Corse has enticed a second former-F1 driver into its LMDh programme for 2024, confirming ex-Red Bull driver and three-time podium finisher Daniil Kvyat will join Romain Grosjean in the race seat next year.

Kvyat’s work with Lamborghini will begin in 2023, as he assists the team by carrying out extensive testing mileage in Lamborghini’s LMDh prototype, which will be entered in in the World Endurance Championship and IMSA Championships from 2024

The Russian-born driver has been competing on an Italian race licence as a neutral competitor so far this season, driving for Prema Racing in the WEC’s LMP2 category. His Formula 1 career began on the back of winning the 2013 GP3 Series title before making his debut with Scuderia Toro Rosso in 2014. He spent a full season at Red Bull in 2015, before returning to Toro Rosso for the fifth grand prix of the 2016 campaign.

His Formula 1 career ended at the conclusion of the 2020 season when he was driving for the team during its first term under the AlphaTauri banner.

Lamborghini Squadra Corse boss Giorgio Sanna, said: Daniil’s main role with us will be working closely with our engineers and mechanics on the prototype car which will debut next year and given his vast experience in other racing categories, I have no doubt that he will play a crucial part in us hitting the ground running in 2024.”

As for Kvyat, he said his personal link to Italy (Kvyat spent some of his youth growing up in the country, moving there in 2007 to further his karting career) meant driving for Lamborghini was a ‘source of pride’.
