Andrew Jordan: Don’t believe the rumours, I’m not leaving the BTCC

As I’m sure you will have read earlier in the week, I shall no longer be driving for Motorbase Performance in the British Touring Car Championship. This is nothing more than a commercial decision and not in any way a reflection of my relationship with the team.

I loved my time at Motorbase, and I was incredibly proud to have brought home the Independents’ Trophy for them, as well as the Independents’ Team Trophy, this year – their first trophies since joining the BTCC 10 years ago. I will be leaving the team with some incredibly fond memories and on good terms.

The differences became apparent in the very early stages of our discussions. There are certain things that I needed for my sponsors, and certain things that Motorbase needed for their sponsors coming in for 2017. Unfortunately, what Motorbase and I were looking for would not work together and we came to the decision that we would have to part ways. I’ve had chats with David [Bartrum, Motorbase Performance Team Principal] and Oly [Collins, Team Manager] – it’s all business.

Unlike some people may believe, I do not fund my racing career personally. All of my racing is completely commercially funded and we have been working with Pirtek since 2005, so I have to look at the long term and do what’s right for them.

While it’s a great shame to be leaving Motorbase, when one door closes another opens and I have irons in fires and have an incredibly exciting prospect on the horizon. Should it come off this will be the biggest thing we’ve ever done as a package, so it’s certainly something to keep an eye out for when it can be confirmed.

While I can’t say where I’m going or what I’ll be driving, I can absolutely 100 per cent guarantee that I will be back on the British Touring Car grid. My current deal with Pirtek runs for another two years and we will definitely be in the BTCC for both of those years.

For now, though, it’s time for a quick holiday, before working hard over the winter on both the historics at Jordan Racing Team and my new car for the BTCC.
