2024 Argentina Grand Prix cancelled

Updated: Thursday 1st February. The cancellation of the 2024 Argentina GP has been confirmed by the governing bodies of MotoGP.

In a short statement that refers to the “current circumstances in Argentina” the sport’s decision makers said “the Promoter of the event has communicated that it is currently unable to guarantee the services required for the Grand Prix to take place in 2024 at MotoGP standards.”

Hopes are that the event will be able to return in 2025 in the wake of Argentina’s current economic crisis.

The race at Termas de Rio Hondo circuit was scheduled to take place on 7th April, but will fall off the calendar, with no projected reschedule.

The season is set to kick off on 10th March for the Qatar Grand Prix at Lusail International Circuit and end in Valencia at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit on 17th November.

Much like this season, the 2024 MotoGP calendar has been laid out with sustainability in mind, with races grouped together geographically to reduce the travel requirements for teams.

After Qatar, the Portuguese Grand Prix is followed by a trip to Texas and the Circuit of the Americas. From there the European season begins, beginning with the Spanish Grand Prix, before visits to Italy, Netherlands, and Germany ahead of the summer break.

The action returns for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone in August, before heading to Austria, Aragon and San Marino.

The championship will then head further afield for six races in seven weeks. The first of two triple headers kicks off with the Indian Grand Prix, followed by races in Indonesia and Japan. After a weekend off, the teams head to Australia, Thailand and Malaysia in consecutive weekends before things wind down in Valencia.

There are plans again to complete the first grand prix in Kazakhstan, subject to the Sokol circuit being homologated, while the Indian round is still awaiting contractual confirmation. Should the Kazakhstan race once again fall off the calendar, MotoGP has lined up a reserve in Hungary to take place instead.
