2024 Formula E standings
Pascal Wehrlein is the 2024 Formula E world champion after a dramatic final weekend of the season at the London E-Prix. The Porsche driver entered the weekend with a deficit of 12 points to Jaguar’s title favourite Nick Cassidy, but as the points leader’s weekend slowly spiralled out of control, it was Wehrlein who executed what he needed to come away with the title.
Cassidy’s Jaguar team-mate Mitch Evans finished up second in the drivers’ standings after looking for all the world as though he’d done enough to become champion, only for an Attack Mode error to hand the trophy to Wehrlein. Jaguar did at least manage to hold onto the team’s championship, but that will be of little consolation to the two drivers.
Wehrlein claims his first world championship in 2024, and his first series title since he won the DTM championship back in 2015 at the age of 20. He seemed destined for greatness when he entered Formula 1 in 2016, but after just two seasons he was cast aside, making a new home for himself in Formula E. Since joining Porsche in 2020, his progress has been gradual, but his consistency throughout the whole season has sealed the deal for him to finally earn the title of world champion that he has long deserved.
In the teams’ championship, DS Penske made the most of their capabilities to finish best of the rest behind Jaguar and Porsche, although Stoffel Vandoorne was comprehensively outperformed by Jean-Eric Vergne and will be hoping for better next season. Oliver Rowland meanwhile carried Nissan to fourth ahead of the ailing Andretti and Envision squads.
