2024 F3 drivers and teams

Formula 3 is the first global rung on the FIA’s single seater pathway to Formula 1. As it follows the F1 circus around the world it is often the first place that people begin to become conscious of the upcoming names in global motorsport. So, who will you be looking out for on the F3 grid in 2024?

2024 F3 grid completed

Updated: Thursday 22nd February. The thirty drivers that will compete for the 2024 FIA F3 championship have been confirmed. With all seats at all ten teams now filled.

MP Motorsport has signed 2023 GB3 champion Alex Dunne, 2023 Italian F4 champion Kacper Sztuka and Tom Tramntz, who finished third in Formula Regional European last year.

Racing alongside Charlie Wurz at Jenzer Motorsport will be Norwegian Formula Regional European Championship runner up Martinius Stenshorne and Matías Zagazeta, who finished second in the British F4 championship in 2021.

ART’s line-up is completed by Nikola Tsolov, who raced with the team in F3 last year, managing points finishes at Spa and Monza.

Nikita Bedrin switches from Jenzer, which whom he finished 18th in the championship last year, to PHM, where he is joined by Thai racer Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak and Joshua Dufek, who raced twice in F3 last year for Campos.

Callum Voisin will be joined at Rodin (no longer Carlin) Motorsport by Piotr Wiśnicki, who raced in four rounds for PHM last year and Brit Joseph Loake, who spent last year in GB3, where he finished third.

As we begin this article the field isn’t fully set for 2024. In fact as this first section is written 11 spaces are still to be filled on the grid, with two teams yet to announce a single driver (MP and PHM). But that does mean that 19 drivers have already confirmed their place on the grid, including some returning faces and some new.

Which F3 drivers are returning for 2024?

Working down in championship finishing order, Dino Beganovic is the first name returning. The Ferrari junior returns to Prema for a second season in F3 after an impressive first in which he failed to win a race, but took four podiums. Behind him Gabriele Mini moves to join Beganovic at Prema and Oliver Goethe switches to Campos. Mini won two races in 2023 and Goethe one, so they will both be hoping to step into title contention in ‘24.

Goethe is joined at Campos by Sebastian Montoya (son of Juan Pablo), while Luke Browning remains at Hitech. Sophia Flörsch makes the switch from PHM (a team which registered a single top ten finish in the whole of 2023, for Flörsch) to Van Amersfoort Racing (which took one win and three podiums). Leonardo Fornaroli remains at Trident, Mari Boya switches from MP to Campos, Christian Mansell moves to ART and Tommy Smith remains with VAR.

A lot of rookies in F3 in 2024?

Yes. But that’s not unusual, it’s the lowest rung on the global motorsport ladder, with Formula Regional and Formula 4 championships across the world feeding in. With a limited number of slots this is often the place where single-seater career progress comes to a halt and drivers move away into either other disciplines or into real life.

So for 2024 we already have ten rookies confirmed. We won’t go through all the backgrounds but a few do stand out. There’s at least one name you’ll recognise too. Charlie Wurz is, you guessed it, son of 1986 World BMX Champion (and later two-time Le Mans-winner and 69-time Grand Prix starter) Alex Wurz. Noel Leon is the reigning Euroformula Open champion and Cian Shields finished as runner up to the Mexican. Leon joins VAR while Shields will race for Hitech. British GB3 champion Callum Voisin has signed for Rodin Carlin while Formula Regional European Championship runner-up Martinius Stenshome will drive for Hitech.

The other rookies who have signed for 2024 so far are: Arvid Lindblad (Prema), Sami Meguetounif (Trident), Santiago Ramos (Trident) and Laurens van Hoepen (ART).

Which teams still have F3 2024 places to fill?

MP Motorsport and PHM Racing are yet to announce any of their drivers. Rodin Carlin only has one of its three spaces filled so far, the same as Jenzer Motorsport, while ART is still to announce its final driver.
