Extreme E’s second season will see the all-electric off-road championship visit Asia, Europe and South America in 2022, with one round still to be decided.
Following a successful, if pandemic-affected, first season in 2021, which saw a title battle that came down to a straight fight between teams entered by F1 champions, and former team-mates, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.
Five rounds have been announced for 2022, with the championship set to visit South America for the first time but confirming it will not return to Greenland.
As with season one the year will kick off with Saudi Arabia in February, but this time the cars will head to Neom not AlUla. A round will follow in Italy, for the Island X Prix on the Italian island of Sardinia before a third round yet to be confirmed. This Ocean X Prix is most likely to take place in Senegal, where the 2021 event was staged, but could also head to Scotland for the series’ second visit to the UK.
The final two rounds will head to the Southern hemisphere for the first time, for events in Chile and Argentina. The Chilean round had been scheduled to take place as the final X Prix of season one, but was cancelled due to the pandemic, replaced by a round in Dorset.
The final two rounds have yet to be named, but it is confirmed that the Chilean round will take place in Antofagasta, as had been originally planned for season one, while in Argentina Extreme E will head to Punta Del Este. The coastal town is well known to the world of electric racing, with Formula E having raced there three times in its history. The five rounds will stretch over nine months, with Argentina’s X Prix taking place in November.
