Video: Wild two-wheeled save on the Mid Antrim 150

It’s the final lap of the 2004 Mid Antrim 150 and there’s a three-way scrap for the top step of the podium between Ryan Farquhar, Richard Britton and Darran Lindsey. It’s all eyes on Lindsay when he gets air but lands with the front wheel first and as if that isn’t a challenge enough, his Suzuki is also crossed up. Inevitably, things immediately get very sketchy. There’s a violent tankslapper, sparks fly and Lindsay’s legs are stretched out in an effort to get things balanced again.

While his closest rivals pin their throttles, it’s all he can do to bring his bike back under control, but with some deft effort he does just that. And, despite the drama, he claims a podium position behind the Kawasaki of Farquhar and Britton’s Suzuki. This short clip shows the incident at real speed and follows it up with a slow motions replay.

Tragically, Lindsay would lose his life two years later during practice for the Killalane road races, a sober reminder of how these split-second incidents can go both ways.
