Ford is one of the largest and oldest car makers in the world, and it’s competed in pretty much every type of motorsport you can think of. So you’d think it would be impossible to decide the five greatest sounding Ford race cars of all time, right?
Popular YouTube channel Belgian Motorsport has given it a go anyway, chosing five of the fruitiest Ford race cars, including the 500 horsepower Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth, the GT40 and the Ford Escort Mk1 RS1600.
Flying around Spa Francorchamps, the Nürburgring and Zolder , each of these noisy old racers boast an impressive race history, not to mention some incredible performance figures. Take the Ford Capri RS3100, for example, which with its 415 horsepower Cosworth V6 could achieve an incredible 174mph top speed. In 1974.
The most modern machine in the line-up is the Ford GT GT1, which dates from 2010. The GT GT1 was not an official Ford race car, instead built and developed by Matech Concepts to comply with FIA GT1 regulations. Nevertheless, at the time it was, offectively, the GT40’s modern counterpart, boasting a 90-degree V8, which put out 600 horsepower at 7,700rpm and 640Nm of torque at 6,100rpm] . It sounds as good as it looks…
The question we pitch to you, though, is this: would you have these cars on your list of the five greatest sounding Ford racers?
