Video: Taming a wild T70 in torrential rain is a proper fight
If you’ve ever wondered how professional racing drivers cope when the heavens open and they’re driving something fast and hugely powerful, wonder no more. This five-minute onboard with Alex Brundle in a Lola T70 at Silverstone is captivating and scary in equal measure.
What starts as a few drops of rain on the windscreen, with a bright sky that appears to have been dissected by a dark, menacing storm cloud, rapidly evolves into an absolute deluge. Alex quickly engages the services of the lone windscreen wiper, bombing past the pits, and from there we get a front row seat to the magic racing driver skill that is reading the conditions. Alex’s racing line gradually changes, moving away from the areas of the track he was using in the dry. Towards the end of the video, the conditions become too much for the barking T70’s tyres, but we won’t tell you what happens. That would be cheating.
