A BMW M1 at full chat is a sight to behold, but this cockpit view from the recent Tour Auto Optic 2000 puts you behind the wheel on an exhilarating special stage.
Piloted by Nicolas Leroy-Fleuriot and Adrien Audibert, the 1979 BMW M1 flies through the quaint French countryside at blistering speeds, passing spectators with barely a metre’s margin.
The video shows as the rear-wheel drive Group 4 car struggles for traction as it takes off on the "Sens - Les Gaillards" special start line, launching itself into an uphill straight.
Seven minutes of pure eargasmic growling follows, as the 3.5-litre inline-six works its magic on the snaking sun-soaked tarmac. Brakes are clearly optional in this stage, and downshifting serves deceleration into corners.
The Tour Auto Optic 2000 took place from 29th to 4th April 2019, starting at Paris’ Grand Palais, and following a sweeping five-leg loop via Lyon to finish in Deauville.
