Video: RWB 993 Turbo tears up the Nürburgring

Rare Porsches so often grab headlines for their sky-rocketing values; you could be forgiven for forgetting that these sought-after classics are also serious driving tools, but if you need a reminder, this video of a RWB Porsche 993 Turbo monstering the Nürburgring ought to do it.

To recap, the standard 993 Turbo has a 3.6-litre 420PS (309kW) motor; this Akira Nakai car has been bored to 3.8 litres and, with the added help of a bigger turbo, now serves up 575PS (423kW) and 680Nm (501lb ft) of torque to the RWB's steamroller-style rear wheels. Combine the power with brakes from a 996 Gemballa and a CAE short shifter, and the result is a car that sucks up the Nürburgring’s twists and turns like a Dyson hoovers up a ribbon.

Performance is so impressive the RWB has barely got into its stride before it's bearing down on the next corner, the steering wheel alive with feel as driver Moran Gott metres out the Porsche's considerable performance onto the next straight.

Gott's delicate application of the steering going into bends does highlight one of this particular 993's weak points – its ageing, road-specific Pirelli rubber. Regardless, the RWB doesn't appear to have any problem smashing the 8:12 record posted by a stock 993 Turbo.
