Video: Joey and Robert Dunlop head-to-head at the Northwest 200

18th August 2021

It was the ultimate battle of brothers – the rivalry between Joey and Robert Dunlop, two of road racing’s most talented riders.

While Joey’s 26 TT wins dwarf the five of his younger brother, the pair were well matched in terms of talent and could often be seen head-to-head on the circuits around Northern Ireland. And the opening Superbike race of the 1991 Northwest 200 is the perfect example of their duel. After the race’s initial leader Carl Fogarty retired with mechanical trouble, a fantastic tug of war for the title ensued, with the pair dancing around one another – Robert on the JPS Norton, and Joey on a Honda.

Ultimately, however, there could only be one winner, and this was Robert's time to shine. Take a few minutes this morning to enjoy this brilliant battle, courtesy of Duke Video…
