Video: Group 5 De Tomaso is the most extreme Pantera
The De Tomaso Pantera is already a pretty aggressive looking car. It’s everything we love about 1970s supercars. Raw, powerful and loud. Well, a version of it few of you will know existed takes those factors and turns them all to 11.
It’s called the Silhouette Group 5, and it wasn’t produced by De Tomaso, but, in the case of chassis 001, it was delivered to and developed by William Sala and Giovanni Marverti to take advantage of those Group 5 rules that we love. On a purely aesthetic view, we approve of the huge wing reminiscent of its rivals the Porsche 935 and Zakspeed Capri and the 5.7-litre V8 sounds as good as ever. After Group 5 was dropped by the FIA, this chassis even had a go in Group C, but as you’d expect, could not compete with the purpose-built Group C cars.
Thanks to Braun Motorsport, we get to see this newly restored Group 5 Pantera flying around the Paul Ricard Circuit and yes, they miss the chicane on the Mistral Straight so we get to hear that engine properly sing.
