Video: Delve deep into the history of Goodwood
From its humble beginning as the perimeter road of a WW2 airfield to a Grand Prix arena and later the undisputed home of historic motorsport, the Goodwood Motor Circuit has seen many incarnations.
And this brilliant mini documentary courtesy of, well ourselves, tells the story of the circuit wonderfully, from the post-war years to the present day.
It was the ninth Duke of Richmond, Freddie March, who was responsible for the creation of the Motor Circuit, his driving passion for speed the catalyst. And as entwined with Goodwood as the Duke himself was Sir Stirling Moss, who famously made his debut as a 17-year-old at the 1948 opening race.
While modern racing at the circuit ended in 1966, its legend lived on, and in the late nineties, the Duke’s grandson, the current Duke of Richmond, brought the track back to life with the Goodwood Revival.
Complete with brilliant vintage race footage and an excellent narration, today’s Elevenses is well worth a few minutes of your day.
