Video: Awesome Sauber Mercedes C11 turbo V8 thunder at Spa

A purist’s favourite, constructed from a carbon fibre chassis at the zenith of endurance aerodynamic technology, this stunning Sauber Mercedes C11 is the very same car which propelled Michael Schumacher into F1; and well, you know the rest of that story. 

The C11 looks fantastic, and by all accounts, was a pleasure to drive, with unrivalled stability at speed, sweeping all its rivals aside to claim the 1990 World Sportscar Championship. Over 25 years later, it still looks the real deal. Most remarkable of all, though, is the sound of the V8 twin-turbocharged engine. This clip sounds so good we’ve had it playing in the background on repeat for some time. It’s mesmerising, and for something so violent, strangely therapeutic.

Mercedes may have been enjoying a dominant period at the sharp end of motor-racing once again, but one thing’s for certain, they don’t make them sound like this anymore.
