Gallery: The late great Dan Gurney at Goodwood

15th January 2018
Ed Foster

Dan Gurney first came to Goodwood nearly 60 years ago for the 1959 Tourist Trophy. He was sharing a Ferrari 250 TR with Brit Tony Brooks and finished fifth, four laps behind winners Stirling Moss and Carroll Shelby.

It was the start of a wonderful relationship between Goodwood and ‘Dan the Man’, one that came to an abrupt halt with his sad passing on January 14th. Dan came to Goodwood many times in period and in more recent memory. Fettling his Eagle F1 car at the Festival of Speed in 1995 and his celebration at the 2012 Revival are just two of the great memories.

"I was here in '59 for the TT, sharing a factory Testa Rossa with Tony Brooks,” he told Nigel Roebuck back in 1998, “and Goodwood really is pretty much as I remember it. Kind of a time warp thing. I guess we should all have black-and-white film in our cameras."

In memory of the late, great Dan Gurney we look back at some of the moments he shared with Goodwood.
