Gallery: Can-Am grunt v V12 Matra might on track

31st July 2016
Ben Miles

The Can-Am race at the Silverstone Classic was an intiguing one. Not just because the wide-open spaces of the home of British motorsport allow for later, gruntier, Can-Am cars than Goodwood can accomodate, but also because of the 'Interserie' nature of the contest.

That allowed a bigger variety of machinary to do battle. In fact it was a V12-powered Matra that would take victory, after overpowering Andrew Newell's FOS-starring McLaren M8F.

Our gallery above highlights this incredible variety, from the V8 Can-Am brutes, to that screaming Matra via a fleet of Lola T70s and Ford GT40s. Enjoy!
