The five best videos to introduce you to the Daytona Classic 24
We at GRR are very familiar with the Classic 24 at Daytona (as the event is officially called). And we're sure that many of you following us over the last few years will also know what we're talking about. But if you're new to this, and not quite sure what to expect, here's a quick visual guide to what to expect.
On board a Lola T70 MkIIIB at Daytona
Not only is it always well worth your while watching a video of a Lola T70 MkIIIB whenever it happens to enter you screen, but this year is a very good time to get back up to speed with all things Lola. This year's Classic 24 at Daytona is in fact a bit of a celebration of Eric Broadley's firm, with chassis from Huntingdon to be found all over this part of northern Florida. This particular clip comes from the 2018 event, with Historic Sportscar Racing's supremo, and pretty handy racer himself, David Hinton at the wheel of one of Lola's mightiest of creations. To be honest, if your screen was broken we'd still reccomend you watch this video so you can just listn to that noise.
9 minutes of raw Daytona action
An onboard is all very good, but most of us will never get that chance to even get close to experiencing such bliss. So what is it actually like to watch from trackside? Well here's the next best thing to being here, we bring you a completlely unadulterrated set of footage from the track action back in 2017, featuring an awesome array of racing kit (there's an Audi R8 on the thumbnail...) at this incredible circuit. We reccomend you watch the whole thing, but then it's pretty hard to stop watching once you start.
25th to 1st in a Ford Mustang
This is pretty much the Classic 24 video. The one that sums up how awesome this event can be. Join Goodwood-regular Olly Bryant in his Ford Mustang as he races at Daytona. Unusually for Bryant he's found himself down in 25th at the start, and it would appear is less than pleased with this situation. So he sets about correcting it in the way only a man armed with a Ford Mustang can. Carving his way past cars left and right until he's back at the head of the field. It's really stirring stuff.
Meet the man who owns a Jägermeister Porsche 962
But what about the people behind these races? Well step right this way to meet one of them, a man who owns and races a stunning Jägermeister-liveried Porsche 962. His name is Bill Hawe and he's pretty happy to be living most of our dreams in driving this incredible orange machine.
Onboard Ford GT Mk7 at Daytona
Which brings us to 2019, and the latest edition of the Classic 24, right here at Daytona. The array of cars that arrive at Daytona each year for this event as a distinct flavour, and a core set of competitors return with the same cars, just like most historic events. But around them is a rotating armada of awesome metal, which this year includes this mighty Ford GT. So of course we stuck a GoPro inside as it headed out onto the Daytona banking for some practice and this is what we captured.
