Aston Martin has revealed its medical car for the 2023 Formula 1 World Championship. Following in the footsteps of last year’s DBX is, somewhat unsurprisingly, another DBX, although it’s now the big-power DBX707, packing a 707PS (520kW) version of the Mercedes-AMG V8 in tandem with a number of performance-oriented hardware upgrades.
We’re huge fans of the DBX707 here at GRR. In fact, we’d call it just about the best fast SUV on sale at the moment, with a driving experience that betrays its high-riding positioning.
Of course, this 707 is modified still further from the road car, with the Official FIA Medical Car getting fire extinguishers, medical bags, a defibrillator and more. There are also FIA-approved racing seats with six-point harnesses and comms tech linked to race control. There’s live AV of the race, as well as biometric data from the F1 drivers themselves.
Visually, of course, the DBX707 is painted in the same Aston Martin Racing Green as the AMR23 F1 racer, with lurid green highlights throughout. It also gets the F1 Medical Car livery splash down the side and on the plate, as well as special light units up top.
“DBX707 is the perfect vehicle for the critical role as an Official FIA Medical Car of Formula 1, providing the performance and punch required for the world’s greatest racing circuits, in addition to the flexibility and space required by the sport’s officials and medics,” said Aston Martin’s Chief Technology Officer, Roberto Fedeli.
“We are delighted to continue our partnership with Formula 1® and the FIA this season, with the pinnacle of motorsport a perfect environment for Aston Martin to showcase the capabilities of our ultra-luxury high-performance cars. With the eyes of the world on our products, there is pressure to perform, but that intensity pushes us to constantly improve. Seeing our cars used in an official capacity at such prestigious events is something that everyone at Aston Martin is very proud of.”
We'll see it in action first at the 2023 Bahrain Grand Prix, the first race of the 2023 F1 season, seat to take place on Sunday, March 5.
