The 10 F1 2025 liveries ranked

21st February 2025

The F1 75 launch event was a momentous occasion. Bright lights and celebrity attention were certainly the focus as Formula 1’s ownership continues to reach for an ever more mainstream audience, but it has also turned the traditional season launch schedule on its head. Where we’ve grown accustomed to a gradual trickle of F1 news through the month of February as the teams run their own individual launch events, we’re suddenly in a position where there is almost too much to talk about.

While we haven’t had many close looks at the actual 2025 cars yet – we’ll probably have to wait for pre-season testing to get underway before we can get down and dirty with the technical details – we do at least know what they’re going to look like when they line up on the grid in Melbourne. The biggest take away for us is that this year’s cars have actually got some paint on them, take the small wins when you can get them.

Here are all ten F1 liveries for the 2025 season, for now at least, until they all start rolling out special one-off designs. We’ve ranked them from worst to best, for what will be the least important F1 result of the season.

10. Sauber

This one is particularly disappointing for me. I thought Sauber’s bold new colour scheme was absolutely epic last year, it provided some much-needed variety on a grid that was becoming a little bit stagnant. But even I have to agree with the rhetoric that this year’s Sauber design looks like the most basic livery present on the F1 game.

The green is still the best colour on the grid, but the lazy application that fades to black is the most uninspiring thing I’ve seen on an F1 car for a while. This could have easily been saved by just painting the entire car green, but at least this year’s Sauber will still look great from the front.

9. Red Bull

See what we said in 2024 to understand why the Red Bull livery in 2025 is lucky not to be in last place. We’ve seen it before… 20 times. The branding is strong, and the car is instantly recognisable, but would it really hurt to just try something a little bit different?

Red Bull has no doubt been focussing on returning to the front of the pack this season, so we imagine the poor livery design team were spared little in the way of budget. There’s no denying the Red Bull car looks good, but it scores zero points for originality.

8. McLaren

McLaren has made no secret of the fact its 2025 car looks rather similar to its predecessor, that’s because the team has made the conscious decision to change virtually nothing about the design. The positioning of the papaya colour is identical to last year, with the only major change to the livery design coming in the form of new sponsorship from Mastercard.

As we’ve already stated, there’s points for effort at play here as well, and while the McLaren certainly catches the eye with its bold design, the fact it is unchanged from last year means we can’t place it any higher.

7. Williams

If nothing else, we’re just happy to see a decent amount of sponsorship returning to the Williams car. This team has been on the precipice for too long, but Team Principal James Vowles seems to be very gradually turning things around, at least from a fundamental operations perspective.

The livery this year is a good one, too, a nice subtle gradient from dark to light blue that looks far tidier than the mishmash of shapes from last year. We like this a lot actually, but it’s a bit too simplistic and uninspiring to make it any further up the list.

6. Mercedes

Now for another car that looks very similar to last year, the Mercedes has carried over the silver-to-black livery that we absolutely loved in 2024, but it’s lost some of its edge, certainly in this launch spec, with the loss of the bold red Ineos branding. Toto Wolff has been strong in his comments that Ineos has not split from Mercedes, but the lack of a red airbox has made the car far less eye-catching than before. The turquoise of Petronas looks to be more prominent this year, though, which is no bad thing.

Ultimately no one at Merc will care what the car looks like as long as it’s quick in the hands of George Russell and Kimi Antonelli, but it’s only good enough for sixth in this list.

5. Haas

Is there too much going on here? I’m not sure. The Haas livery is a big improvement from last season, and that’s enough to move it up into the top half of the grid. White has become the dominant colour, and we’re all for that, especially with the red accents.

It’s a bold and interesting design that I think deserves praise. It accentuates the shape of the car, which is always a positive in my eyes when it comes to livery design. A good effort from Haas, let’s see if the performance matches the look.

4. Aston Martin

There’s just no getting away from the colour of the Aston Martin. That green is the best thing on the grid, so even though this car looks very similar to what we saw last year, it’s simply better than the majority of its competitors when it comes to looks.

The Aramco colouring on the rear wing is the only point of contention, while the new silver air box actually adds another layer of class to the overall design. A bit of bare carbon on the side pods threatened to see this livery docked some points, but actually it gives the design some added depth, so we’ve turned a blind eye.

3. Racing Bulls

Has this team ever come up with a bad livery? Racing Bulls continue to smash it year on year, and this time the design team have torn up the book yet again. White F1 cars are always stunning, so this car was always going to be near the top of the list.

The only slight concern is that this car bears the closest resemblance yet to the senior Red Bull team.  This is basically a white Red Bull, but it does look fantastic, so Racing Bulls make it onto the livery podium after just barely missing out last season.

2. Alpine

I’ve stuck my neck out here. I think the Alpine looks phenomenal, especially when you consider the team launched last year with a car that might as well have had no paint on it at all. I said then that the potential with this colour scheme was enormous, and this year the design team has nailed it.

Blue and pink simply shouldn’t work… and yet here it is, coming together to form what I think is the second-best livery on the 2025 F1 grid. Alpine has clearly addressed its weight issues from last season, and can now afford to actually paint the car. The fact it has done so in such a bold but equally classy way is deserving of praise. This car is going to look great out on track.

1. Ferrari

At first glance, I didn’t like the 2025 Ferrari livery; I thought the white stripe was forced and ugly. But actually, after three days I’m now sold on the idea that the design team at Maranello has once again played a blinder. The blue HP logo was always going to be tricky to incorporate onto a red car, and the white is the perfect way to bring those two colours together.

A word for this year’s red, which is absolutely gorgeous, the change to a deeper shade has worked wonders for the overall design. This is a very good-looking car, the classiest of them all by far, and it deservedly places Ferrari at the top of this list for the second year running.
