Can you believe it’s only week two of lockdown in the UK? How much are you missing some car-based action right now? Well, let GRR be your saviour with a bit of entertainment for your weekend. (If you get through all of this and still crave more, have a look at our last weekend supplement.)
We got you warmed up with some Mad Mike action earlier, so here’s what it’s like to be (pretty much) inside that helmet. This is action from the 2015 Festival, beamed direct from a GoPro attached to Mike’s helmet. It shows the skill that goes into shredding the Goodwood Hill and brings some of that amazing rotary noise from Mike’s MADBULL RX-7 in its original form. What an experience.
This will set your heart pumping on a sleepy Sunday. To be honest we’re sure that watching this video counts as your one government-permitted exercise for the day. It stars an off road biker, that we haven’t identified, taking to a hillside track for some high-speed fun. And we mean high-speed, although it could be the wide angle on the GoPro attached to the rider’s chest, this looks incredibly fast. A skilled rider who is obviously (we hope) familiar with his surroundings to be able to attack it with abandon.
We love Trans-Am. It’s been going in the States for a long time now with a very similar formula – big engines and a silhouette body. It means big noise, fast speeds and lots of sliding. Especially when you have a restart at Sebring just a few laps from the end. In this case it’s total chaos as the protagonists fight for victory in one of the early races of the 2020 season, forgetting, apparently, that the championship isn’t won in race one.
The Graham Hill Trophy is a great race. Found at various Members’ Meetings since they were revived, and filled with big-banger GT cars. Back at the 73rd Members’ Meeting the race went into the dark, thanks to some delays earlier in the day, and featured an incredible battle for victory that went almost down to the wire. Earlier this year we got all the main protagonists together to relive that incredible race.
You can watch the full GRRC Original here.
This is the most successful single Formula 1 chassis of all time. Tyrrell 003 defeated all comers to clinch the F1 championship with Jackie Stewart at the wheel. At the Festival of Speed in 2019 Jackie’s son drove this special car in convoy with his famous father, and we sat down with him to tell the amazing story.
They’re both legends of sideways sliding, they both brought a new dimension to the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard. But who’s runs do you love more? Could it be Mad Mike Whiddett in his mighty MX-5 RADBULL from 2017 or will it be the time that Ken Block, the man behind Hoonigan industries, turned up in 2015 with his frankly bonkers ‘Hoonicorn’ Mustang? Well, watch and decide.
