Every new Formula 1 car is important to the team that creates it, but the McLaren MCL35 is probably one of the most important McLaren has ever made.

Why is it so important? Because McLaren's gap to the 'big three' – Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari – was narrower in 2019 than it has been for some years. To take a backwards step now, having made such good progress (Carlos Sainz sneaked a podium at the 2019 Brazillian Grand Prix, remember), would be very sad news indeed. McLaren has been promising for a long time that'll it can fight with the best, and it can't wait for the 2021 rule change to prove that.
