Sensational high-revving V10, V8 and V12 F1 cars from Ferrari, McLaren, Williams, Arrows, Jordan and Minardi will showcase one of Formula 1’s greatest eras as part of Goodwood’s 79th Members’ Meeting celebration.
These screaming racing cars haven’t been seen in such numbers on track together for over 16 years, since the 3.5/3.0-litre era ended in 2005, and have never been together on track at the Goodwood Motor Circuit.
Powered by high-revving V10 engines the cars, which range from the earliest days of the formula in 1989 right into the current century, were some of the most spectacular to see and hear in F1 history. The sheer aural presence of this V10-led F1 era has led to calls for such motors to return ever since F1 reduced its cylinder count to work with more affordable V8s and eventually hybridised V6s.
On track will be a trio of McLaren cars raced by the late, great, Ayrton Senna, including the iconic V12-powered MP4/6 in which he won his final F1 title, and which wowed the crowds at 78MM in the hand of his nephew Bruno Senna, as well as the legendary MP4/5, the first V10-powered car to win an F1 crown, and the MP4/7, with which Senna battled Mansell in 1992.
From later in McLaren’s history comes the striking silver MP4/15 with which Mika Häkkinen attempted to defended his F1 title in 2000, up against the might of Ferrari and Michael Schumacher.
Schumacher will also be represented with multiple cars. On track will be the Benetton B193, the type of car he took his first F1 victories in in 1993, while appearing on static display will be the very car that Schumacher won perhaps his greatest race in: the 1996 Spanish Grand Prix-winning Ferrari F310. Alongside it in the paddocks will be the F310B, the first car that Schumacher challenged for a title in with Ferrari, the season of his ill-fated battle with Jacques Villeneuve.
Representing perhaps the most dominant partnership of the era, Williams and Renault, will be a pair of FW18s, the car that took Damon Hill to his crown in 1996.
While those championship and race winning cars will no doubt steal the limelight, there’s plenty of interesting cars through the rest of the pack, each powered by a screaming 3.0- or 3.5-litre engine.
The very Arrows A11 that holds Goodwood’s Outright Circuit Record – as set by Nick Padmore during Goodwood SpeedWeek presented by Mastercard – will return as well as the brilliant, single wing-pillared Footwork FA13.
Jordan will be represented by the 194 and 195 from 1994 and ’95 while the stunning Leyton House CG891 is not to be missed both visually and aurally. Finally, everyone’s favourite perennial backmarkers – and now regular podium finishers as the Red Bull-backed AlphaTauri – Minardi will be on the grid with the vivid M189 and M194.
Tickets for the 79th Members’ Meeting are now limited, and are available on Goodwood.com for all those that are a member of the GRRC Community, as either a Member of as part of the Fellowship.
