Video: Meet the Chain Gang – the stars of Goodwood's most entertaining race

The 79th Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport featured a race unlike any other. A grid made up entirely of chain-driven machines, featuring one very special name: Frazer Nash.

A British engineer by the name of Archibald Nash founded his company in 1922, producing chain-driven sportscars over a fifteen-year period from 1924-1939. These pre-war cars were extremely limited in number, and were primarily used as road cars, however, the Frazer Nash name did occasionally show up at motorsport events around the world during its post-war years.

So to see a grid of 30, pre-war Frazer Nashes line up on the grid at the Goodwood Motor Circuit was a remarkably rare occasion. We caught up with a number of the drivers preparing to wonderful machines.

They have a distinct look with that narrow rear track, and all of these incredibly brave drivers will tell you that it leads to some fairly interesting handling characteristics. Needless to say, it makes for spectacular viewing, and we sincerely hope to have many of these brilliant pre-war sportscars return to Goodwood before too long.
