It was, as this spectacular battle royal between Group A touring cars always is, the final race of the weekend. And even after an event filled with unforgettable moments, the final of the Gordon Spice Trophy was still able to keep us hooked from start to finish.
The recipe of this famous race is just perfection. With a sprawling mix of cars, from Ford Capris to Chevy Camaros, Minis, Golf GTIs, Mustangs, Rover SD1s and more besides, there is always something pretty to look at and stunning to listen to. A seemingly endless tussle between a field of boisterous drivers keen to claim superiority over their peers.
And that’s exactly what happened at the 80th Members’ Meeting. From the start, the BTCC’s Jake Hill led away, hoping to follow on from his dominant displays on Saturday, however, his car proceeded to fill the Motor Circuit with smoke, and eventually, he was forced to pit to make a fix. That left Robb Huff, Jack Tetley and a host of others to battle it out for the win. A red flag briefly halted proceedings, but that did at least allow Jake Hill an opportunity to fight his way back to the front from 21st at the second restart, to an almost unfathomable finishing position. You really should watch this from start to finish…
