It was Jake Hill who made the best of the start, taking the lead from pole sitter Andy Priaulx, while Romain Dumas made a great start from the inside of the third row to jump into third place with a couple of wheels on the grass.
From there the battle at the front was between Hill’s Capri and Priaulx’s Camaro. Jake Hill’s talent was on full display as he wrung the neck of the Ford in his signature style to keep the more powerful Chevy behind. The pair swapped positions relentlessly through the opening minutes.
Priaulx’s pace eventually told us, as he made a stunning move around the outside of Woodcote, Hill just barely clinging onto the front end of his Capri as he dipped two wheels onto the grass on the inside.
Hill, however, refused to give up, and he hung on tightly to the Camaro’s coat tails as Rob Huff loomed around a second back. The battle behind was equally frantic, as Dumas, Gordon Shedden, Tom Ingram and Tom Kristensen diced for position lap after lap.
Shedden was a stand out performer in his Volvo 242, somehow keeping the brick in contention with more esteemed competition.
We won’t spoil the result for you, but it’s worth watching to the very end to see how this opening chapter of the Gordon Spice Trophy played out. Touring cars are back at the 82nd Members’ Meeting!
Tickets for the 83rd Members’ Meeting will be available for a limited time immediately after this year’s event for Members and Fellows of the GRRC. Admission and Grandstand tickets will go on sale on Monday 14th April for Members, and Wednesday 16th April for Fellows.
