Uniting a field of sports racing cars of a type that competed up to 1939, Sunday’s grid was awash with some of the weekend’s most beguiling pieces of pre-WW2 motorsport engineering. From a series of original factory team Aston Martin Ulsters as well as Alfa Romeo, Bentley, Frazer Nash, Maserati and a pair of lesser-spotted Talbot 105 Sports, the field had something for everyone, in true Goodwood style.

It was Gareth Burnett in the exceptionally pretty Alta Two Seater Sports that would quickly stamp his authority on the race. Proving his well-known pace within the potent little race rocket.

From this quick start, Gareth would go on to tussle back and fourth throughout the entire 20 minute race with the Aston Martin Speed Model 'Red Dragon' driven by Richard Bradely. A car and driver pairing that would eventually muscle their way into the lead and hold off Gareth to take the eventual chequers.

For those lucky enough to be trackside near the famous Goodwood Chicane, the action wasn’t only reserved for the top two. With multiple drivers showing exquisite car control and a deft touch. Letting the oversized rear wheels of these elegant endurance racers blaze up in plumes of smoke upon exit. Drifting out to the curb and delicately allowing the rear realign before once again blasting past the pitlane.
