Britain’s most astonishing new hypercar, the Gordon Murray Automotive T.50, will make its global dynamic debut at the 78th Members’ Meeting next week with five laps of the Goodwood Motor Circuit. Alongside it in a static display to the public for the first time will be the T.50S Niki Lauda track-only edition.

The occasion is just the latest in a long association between the lauded British designer and Goodwood. The McLaren F1 underwent development testing at the Goodwood track and Murray attended the very first Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard where his Light Car Company Rocket made its debut.

Indeed, FOS has been the debut venue for a couple of his important formative designs on their return. This year the innovative IGM 750 T4, a revolutionary design with pullrod suspension that directly informed Murray’s first race-winner, the Brabham BT44, followed the IGM-Ford T1 recreation, which ran for the first time at FOS in 2017 to celebrate 50 years of his designs

A dozen McLaren F1 GTRs took to the track at the 73rd Members’ Meeting in 2015. Which brings us neatly to 78MM where the T.50 will be exercising its astonishing 3.9-litre 660PS (485kW) Cosworth V12 and manual transmission.

“There’s no better place to show and demonstrate the T.50 than the Goodwood Members Meeting,” Murray said.

“It’s been frustrating not to be able to show our supercar before, but for everyone intending to visit Goodwood, it will certainly be worth the wait. I’m looking forward to it – it’s going to sound superb.”

That sounds to us like the T.50 won’t be taking it easy for its five laps and that we might just hear something close to the claimed 12,100rpm redline on that incredible Cosworth V12.

Off track and on display will be a number of significant Murray cars including Murray’s first F1 race winner, the Brabham BT44B, Murray’s first car, the IGM-Ford T.1, the IGM Formula 750 T.4, a Light Car Company Rocket T.21 and a Duckhams Ford LM T.3.

“Gordon Murray is one of the most influential car designers of our time and has been part of our motoring events since the beginning,” said The Duke of Richmond.

“I am thrilled that the T.50 will be launched at the Members’ Meeting, the perfect backdrop to bring two iconic British brands together.”
