The 82nd Goodwood Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport is more than just a two-day event running over a spring weekend in April. Many of the competitors put an awful lot of effort into building, preparing and testing their cars in the weeks and months leading up to the beginning of another season of historic motorsport.
A part of that preparation takes place right here at the Goodwood Motor Circuit, as teams and drivers carry out extensive track testing to run engines, play with setups and even just learn the Circuit’s high-speed layout.
Those testing days are also an opportunity for us to quench our winter-long thirst for motorsport action at Goodwood, as the paddocks fill up with racing legends in the form of cars and drivers for the first time since the Revival came to a close.
Over five days in March and April, more than 100 cars arrived at the Motor Circuit to get their Members’ Meeting efforts officially underway, everything from Formula Juniors competing in the Arundell Cup to Ford Capris and Rover SD1 warming up for the Gordon Spice Trophy.
Among the most spectacular sights were this Lotus 11 GT ‘Breadvan’, a unique entrant in the 82nd Members’ Meeting, and a car you’ll be able to see in action in the Moss Trophy. We caught up with Will Nuthall, who’ll be driving the Breadvan, to find out more about this eye-catching machine.
One of the best-sounding cars of testing was the rotary-engined Mazda RX-7, which even when equipped with a full silencing rig, reverberated around the Goodwood Estate as it geared up for the first ever running of the Win Percy Trophy. As if the sound of that engine wasn’t enough, that distinct livery will make this car difficult to miss when it returns to action during Members’ Meeting.
Another unique sight was the Lagonda V12, a car with a remarkable story that tied it perfectly to an outing in this year’s Earl Howe Trophy. Its 4.5-litre V12 will make somewhere towards 200PS (147kW) when it's at full chat, and we have it on good authority that it will sound absolutely astonishing.
It feels good to have a summer of motorsport to look forward to once again at Goodwood, and the 82nd Members’ Meeting promises to get the year off to the perfect start. Like us, Members’ and Fellows of the GRRC had the opportunity to attend all five testing days for an exclusive first look at the competitors, as they got down to the business of getting themselves ready for a weekend of historic racing.
It’s a great opportunity to get up close to the cars and their drivers in a more intimate setting than the event itself, not to mention near unlimited views of the action on track. This year in particular, the weather was also on form, which made for a brilliant few days of Members’ Meeting testing.
The 82nd Members' Meeting will take place on 12th and 13th April 2025 and limited tickets are still available for Members and Fellows of the GRRC.
