Gallery: The glorious bikes of 79MM’s Hailwood and Sheene Trophies
Regularly winning the unofficial Goodwood Members’ Meeting bravery award each year are the leather-clad gladiators of the Hailwood and Sheene Trophies. Racing around the flowing, bottom-clenching historic Goodwood Motor Circuit takes a decent amount of guts on four-wheels. Divide that by two, and you’re quickly in a new realm of commitment.
Starting a new era of motorcycle racing here at Goodwood, the Hailwood Trophy will be held over two shorter sprints, with one race on Saturday and the second on Sunday. An equation that is surely set to produce breathless, sweeping, competition with plenty of ‘death-gripping’ round the many flat-out sections of track. The Sheene Trophy will be awarded to the first four-stroke through the chequers.
Pilots will swing a leg over a range of machines spanning the late 1960s to early 1980s – specifically 250cc and 350cc Grand Prix Motorcycles up to 1983, and Formula 750cc behemoths up to 1972. Chariots include Yamaha TZ350G/F, Nortan Manx, Triumph Tridents, Hadleigh Hondas, and many more. If it’s raw, unadulterated, adrenaline-fuelled racing you’re after, then the Hailwood Trophy (Feat Sheene Trophy) is unmissable.
