The 79th Members’ Meeting is just over four months away and we’re so excited to get the 2022 season open with a weekend of track action and racing. Getting in ahead of the new year, we thought we’d tell you exactly what races you can look forward to on the 9th and 10th of April 2022.

The big news this year is that the beloved S.F. Edge Trophy will be taking a year off, giving way to the all-new A.F.P Fane Trophy as our weekend opener. This will feature pre-war chain-driven Frazer Nash machinery, with a mix of sportscars and single-seaters. Following that will be the screaming Derek Bell Cup for 1-litre F3 machines raced between 1964 and 1970.

It wouldn’t be a Members’ Meeting without the tin-top titans of the Gerry Marshall Trophy assembling for a tussle at the Goodwood Motor Circuit. Making a return will be the race/sprint format spread over Saturday and Sunday with a reverse grid for the finisher.

Following that will be the Graham Hill Trophy – this year in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of Hill’s first F1 victory for BRM in 1962 – featuring the familiar crop of 1960-1964 closed-cockpit GTs and prototypes. The Hailwood Trophy is up next featuring 250cc and 350cc Grand Prix motorcycles up to 1983 and F750 bikes up to 1972. For the first time at the 79th Members’ Meeting, it’ll be split into two sprint races across Saturday and Sunday, with the Sheene Trophy returning for the first-finishing four-stroke bike.

After that, the sportscar classic that is the Peter Collins Trophy will feature the familiar cars of the Goodwood 9 Hours – sports racers that competed between 1948 and 1955. The Robert Brooks Trophy is a fitting follow-up, with under-2.5-litre sportscars from between 1955 and 1960 taking to the motor circuit. Named after a long-time Goodwood friend and governor who sadly passed away this year, the race harks back to the popular club races of Goodwood’s golden era.

The last few races of the Members’ Meeting are nothing if not varied, with saloon cars, sports prototypes, pre-war single-seaters and lightweight GTs. The Sopwith Cup will celebrate the grassroots years of touring car racing before the inauguration of the BSCC, with ‘50s tin-tops battling it out. These gung-ho grocery-getters couldn’t be more different from the thunderous fire-spitting sportscars of the Surtees Trophy, featuring Lola T70s, Ford GT40s and more.

Then we jump back in time for a Franco-Italian spectacular. The Varzi Trophy will feature pre-war Grand Prix and Voiturette racers and specials from 1928 to 1935. Finally, we close with the Weslake Cup for A-Series engined sports and GT cars from between 1958 and 1966. Lightweight machines packing the engine that powered a generation of affordable saloons.

As ever, Goodwood’s Members’ Meeting features possibly the most eclectic array of historic racing and race machinery and is absolutely not to be missed.
