The Shoot-Out format returns at the 82nd Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport, but from Sidecars, the event is transforming into a competition for GT3 cars that raced between 2006 and 2012.
The moment arrived on Saturday evening for the GT3 Shoot-Out to start getting serious. We’ve heard all the way through the build up to this event that the drivers have been getting increasingly competitive, and now we know who has the upper hand after the qualifying runs.
All six drivers who took the Motor Circuit are experienced hands here at Goodwood, so it was set to be a close fight with each of them striving to get the absolute most out of their respective machinery.
It was Frank Stippler out first in the fearsome Chevrolet Camaro GT3 with its 7.9-litre V8, and while he boasts a supreme power output, he wasn’t able wrestle that monster through the corners, and will run first in the Shoot-Out final with the slowest qualifying time.
The BMW Z4 GT3 of Andy Priaulx was next, and its greater agility paid off as he absolutely flew through Madgwick to begin his quick lap. But straight-line speed is a huge factor here at Goodwood, and his best efforts were good enough for the third fastest time as he dipped a wheel on the dust out of the Chicane.
Another V8 was next, this time powering Andrew Jordan’s Chevrolet Corvette Z06-R GT3, which was absolutely planted as he showed utter commitment to set the fastest time of the session, seven tenths quicker than his closest challenger, and surely the new favourite to claim outright victory in the Shoot-Out on Sunday.
With the benchmark laid firmly down, Andre Lotterer was next across the line in the Porsche 997 GT3 R Evo, as he set the fifth fastest time. Jake Hill, a proven superstar around the Motor Circuit, followed him through in the Ferrari 458 Italia GT3, but even his prowess around here couldn’t lift him any higher than third fastest.
Phil Keen finished the session as the closest challenger to Jordan, and he will be eyeing an improvement in his Aston Martin V12 Vantage when the trophies are handed out on Sunday afternoon.

After the spectacle of the GT3 demonstration, the seven drivers competing in the Shoot-Out had a first chance to really test their machines on the Motor Circuit on Saturday afternoon, laying down a marker for Sunday’s main event.
It was Andrew Jordan in the Chevrolet Corvette Z06.R who topped the timesheet with a 1:14.407, with the Aston Martin Vantage of Phil Keen not even half a second behind him. Jake Hill and the Ferrari 458 Italia rounded out the top three a second back on Keen.
There was scarcely anything to separate Hill from fourth-placed André Lotterer in the Porsche 997, and BMW Z4 driven by Aubigny House Captain, Andy Priaulx in fifth. Frank Stippler came sixth in the Chevrolet Camaro with a time of 1:16.733, and Tom Kristensen, leading Darnley, rounded up the field in seventh, at the wheel of the Audi R8 LMS Ultra.

A field of more than 20 GT3 cars will head out on the Motor Circuit on Saturday morning for a dramatic demonstration of these wonderfully varied but utterly ferocious racing cars, before the cars shortlisted to take part in the Shoot-Out will prepare for a ten-minute practice session to get their eye in at full speed.
That will be all the running they get ahead of Shoot-Out Qualifying, which will see each driver unleashed to set a single timed lap that will dictate the running order for the Final on Sunday.
The GT3 cars will return on Sunday morning for the weekend’s second demonstration, which will once again set window frames a-shaking with the sound of these machines giving it some around Goodwood’s high-speed layout. The range of flat-six, V8, V10 and V12 engines is going to sound absolutely epic.
Another ten minutes of practice will follow, as the drivers take their final opportunity to hone their lap times ahead of the main event on Sunday evening.
The GT3 Shoot-Out Final will get underway at 17:25, and will see each car released for one more timed lap, the fastest of which will be crowned the inaugural GT3 Shoot-Out Champion.
The list of drivers taking part is nothing short of phenomenal. Seven drivers have been confirmed to take part, a list that covers all forms of closed cockpit motorsport.
Nine-time Le Mans 24 Hours winner Tom Kristensen will be joined by three-time winner Andre Lotterer and three-time World Touring Car Champion Andy Priaulx.
They’ll battle against British Touring Car Champions Andrew Jordan and Jake Hill, and GT3 stalwarts Frank Stippler and Phil Keen.
Kristensen will get behind the wheel of an Audi R8 LMS Ultra, a 5.2-litre V10 engined monster producing almost 600PS. Priaulx will drive a BMW Z4 with a brutal 4.0-litre V8 under its bulging bonnet, Andrew Jordan joins the fray in a Corvette Z06-R GT3, but it’s Stippler who wins the battle of the V8s with his 7.9-litre Chevrolet Camaro. Lotterer meanwhile will be enjoying himself in a flat-six-engined Porsche 911.
A GT3 competition wouldn’t be complete without an entry from Ferrari, and the 458 Italia ticks that box at the hands of Andrew Jordan. Phil Keen completes the current line-up in an Aston Martin V12 Vantage.
