78MM timetable revealed

08th October 2021

The 78th Goodwood Members’ Meeting is a matter of days away, so it’s time to let you know what’s going to happen when and, given it’s a two day event, this is a brilliantly packed schedule of motorsport!

Saturday opens with the traditional running of the track by the hunt before our governors will have a chance to drive round the track. A parade of McLaren’s finest road cars follows before the racing cars take to the track with a pair of Gerry Marshall Trophy practice sessions.

While Saturday is largely dominated by practice sessions for most of the cars racing over the weekend, there are four races (the most the Saturday of Members’ Meeting has ever had) in the afternoon. The two heats of this year’s split Gerry Marshall Trophy run from 2.20pm onward, before the first race of the S.F. Edge Trophy at 4.40pm. The Pierpoint Cup’s 45-minute race for V8 saloons then takes us toward sunset and our first public Rally Sprint presented by Cooper Tyres.

Each day is punctuated by our two demonstrations, with the stunning Jaguar XJR-15 taking centre stage at 1.20pm on Saturday and 3.25pm on Sunday and the Ayrton Senna celebration at 2.50pm on day one and 1.15pm on day two.

For those at the circuit, the first day will be brought to a close by the awesome Members’ Meeting party, beginning at 6.30pm and a mighty fireworks display at 9pm.

Sunday at 78MM opens with the final practice and timed runs of the Super Special, running in the opposite direction to the first day before McLaren take centre stage again. The day’s track action begins with a trio of practice sessions, for the cars that didn’t practice on Saturday, beginning with the beguiling GT beauties of the Ronnie Hoare Trophy.

The rest of day two is then a feast of racing action beginning with the Arundell Cup for  F3 cars and the Hailwood Trophy, 78MM’s only bike race for 250 and 350cc motorbikes and F750 racers.

The rest of the day builds through the awesome Gurney Cup – a two-driver race for unlimited sports-prototypes – and the ‘50s and ‘60s racers of the Salvadori Cup and Moss Trophy before the day’s racing is finished off by the final of the Gerry Marshall Trophy.

Remember that the timetable is provisional and liable to change up to and on event.
