Gallery: 77MM – Rare BMW M1 Procar action

10th April 2019
Adam Wilkins

It's rare to see a pack of BMW M1 Procars in action, but that's exactly what happened at the 77th Members' Meeting when a high speed demonstration celebrated 40 years since the inception of one of the most exciting one-make championships of all time.

The F1 support races ran for only two years, and the world's top drivers were attracted to the series by big prize money and the opportunity to battle each other in equal machinery. This was very close racing – but also very clean, there being a finacial prize-money incentive to bring the car home without any damage. Hans Stuck was quoted as saying the M1 races were usually better than the Grand Prix itself.

For those who were at 77MM, there was an opportunity to not only see the car in action, but also hear the screaming straight-six engines. It was a tremendous spectactle, as you can see in this gallery. Just imagine if there was a modern Procar F1 support series with current Grand Prix drivers?
