Video: 'Modded' Maserati 250F takes on F1 Ferrari 246

We can only dream of what early Formula 1 was like. Or rather we would have to dream about it if it wasn’t for the Goodwood Revival and the Richmond Trophy.

The Richmond Trophy is a race for 1950s Grand Prix racers with engines up to 2.5-litres in displacement, and, as you’d expect, there’s always a Ferrari and Maserati or two on the grid.

In 2016 it was the fight between Tony Wood in his 1959 ‘Tec-Mec’ Tecnica Meccanica-Maserati F415 and Rob Hall in a 1960 Ferrari 246 Dino that particularly caught the attention of the cameras. The pair were fighting for second place, which is perhaps why Wood was so keen to get past Hall as quickly as possible in pursuit of the top spot. What a scrap.

Sadly there will be no Revival in 2020, which in turn would mean no Richmond Trophy, right? Thankfully not as, in case you missed the news, we’re running a one-off, behind-closed-doors event called SpeedWeek presented by Mastercard this October. The whole event will be streamed here on GRR and the cars of the Richmond Trophy will be out in force in the Richmond and Gordon Trophies. We simply can’t wait.
