Porsche Le Mans winners descend on Goodwood

26th October 2020

Porsche has what can perhaps be described as the greatest family lineage in all of motorsport. That is, a family of cars with 19 wins between them at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, spread over 50 years as of this year. In celebration of the 50th year since that first win, we assembled a selection of cars from this dynasty of winners, to join the original 1970 victor in celebration at Goodwood SpeedWeek presented by Mastercard.

We love a Nigel Harniman light painting here at GRR. Who wouldn’t? Truthfully, there may not be a group of cars as deserving of the Harniman photography treatment as this. Dickie Attwood’s 1970 Porsche 917K, resplendent in its Salzburg livery, was joined by a winning 936, double-winning 956, Tom Kristensen’s winning WSC-95, the winning 911 GT1-98 and Porsche’s last winner, the 2016 919 Hybrid. A veritable who’s who of trophy-winning powerhouse prototypes.

Yes, that means Porsche’s last winner, the 2016 919, joined its first, the 1970 917k. The beginning and the end (for now) of this incredible endurance racing saga. What a moment to have all these cars together, in celebration of an historic win. This shot proves it’s possible to capture the significance and gravity of that moment on-camera.
