Goodwood SpeedWeek presented by Mastercard has so far proven to be a place where tradition and the future in motoring and motor racing can meet. Perfect then, for McLaren to unveil its new partnership with Gulf Oil with a special Gulf-coloured Elva, the marque’s new ultra-limited retro-futuristic open-air hypercar.
It follows a Gulf-liveried Senna GTR LM being revealed just a short while ago. The car was part of a limited series created in celebration of 25 years since the famous F1 Le Mans win. The partnership opens officially, however, with this Elva Gulf Theme, displaying a traditional Gulf livery created by McLaren Special Operations.
McLaren and Gulf have famously worked together before, with a relationship that goes back to the 1960s. McLaren racing machinery in F1, Can-Am and IndyCar wore the famous blue and orange colours from 1968 to 1973. In the 1990s, the Gulf colours then appeared on a selection of McLaren F1 GTR racing cars, both in short and longtail form.
While you might not be able to secure an ultra-limited 815PS Elva, which is limited to just 149 units, fear not. As above, the Gulf livery is now officially available to commission from MSO on new McLaren orders.
“The McLaren Elva Gulf Theme by MSO is a striking celebration of both McLaren’s history in sports car racing and our new partnership with Gulf Oil,” said Ansar Ali, Managing Director, McLaren Special Operations.
“Projects like this showcase the increasingly extensive range of personalisation options we can offer customers – in this case, enhancing the authenticity of the livery by incorporating Gulf brand logos into the design.”
