Video: 30 Jaguar D-Types battle at Goodwood

D-Types led Jaguar’s successful charges at Le Mans in 1955, 1956 and 1957. In the hands of Duncan Hamilton, Mike Hawthorn, Ivor Bueb and Ron Flockhart the D-Type solidified Jaguar’s position as a hero of endurance motorsport in the ’50s.

At the Goodwood Revival 2014, we celebrated their success in the Lavant Trophy with a D-Type-only (plus a few road-going XKSSs) grid!

This particular edition of the Lavant Cup was dominated by regular Revival winner, Gary Pearson. Driving his gorgeous 1955 long-nose D-type, Pearson led from the startline to the chequered flag. Behind, Christian Glasel and Gregor Fisken pushed to second and third with the gap between the front three closing up in the final laps.

The battle that pushed many to the edge of their seats was that of Le Mans winners Derek Bell and Andy Wallace who eventually both lost out to John Young, who came back despite spinning in the early stages. No doubt a fitting tribute to one of Jaguar’s greatest racers!
