Video: Romain Dumas 29th to 3rd in a Ford Galaxie

Romain Dumas has had plenty of great performances at Goodwood, whether it's here at the Revival, or on the Hill at the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard. After he took Timed Shootout victory this summer, he was back on top form again at the wheel of this Ford Galaxie in the St. Mary's Trophy presented by Motul, but he had his work cut out to make it onto the top step of the podium.

He was an outside bet from 29th on the grid but you can be sure he gave it one heck of a go. He pushed the thumping Ford V8 for everything it was worth as he powered past the Cortinas, Giulias and Minis that had no answer to his speed down the Lavant Straight. Even the Galaxies of Jimmie Johnson and Gordon Shedden were no match for the charging Frenchman.

Dumas and the big musclebound monsters are a match made in heaven, as he scythed his way up the order, manipulating the rear end using that tower of V8 power. It’s not so much threading the needle as it is threading the aircraft carrier, so it’s handy to have a driver at the wheel like Dumas, who has the stones to go for a gap and the skills to make it stick. His patience, the way he picks his moments, is a skill only experience can give you. What an absolutely incredible drive.
