Which is strange because often we show Minis battle giants like the Rover SD1 and Chevrolet Camaro in the Gordon Spice Trophy. It really is a pike in a shark tank there but here, it’s little and light vs littler and lighter, at least before the Ford Galaxie comes into view. The difference really is how rear-drive and front-drive help or hinder the cars around the flowing, undulous Goodwood Motor Circuit.

The Cortinas while being a better match for the Minis do have the legs off the line but they prove tricky to get bedded into the first corner on cold tyres. They also look, from the point of view of a fisheye camera in the back of a Mini, absolutely enormous. Which isn’t how we’d normally describe Ford’s diminutive ‘60s sports saloon. Up ahead, just in view, the positively leviathanic Ford Galaxie can be seen lumbering round the corners then utterly thumping up the straights. It’s not long before he’s nose to tail with it delivering the classic little vs. large concertina racing we love to see.

All in, it’s another classic Nick Swift vs. the world clip that shows power isn’t everything.
