The Goodwood Revival’s RAC TT Celebration has been won by a massively varied number of cars. From Ferraris to Listers and all manner in between. But there is one battle of the brands that returns year-after-year, no matter who wins: Cobra vs. E-type.
The fight between British straight-six and American V8 has been a cornerstone of the TT battle for almost as long as the event has been going, with each side having its fanatical support.
Often the fight for victory comes down to a battle between these two automotive foes, but back in 2015 the odds were all the more stacked toward the American side.
Today for some Elevenses we ride onboard one of the E-types involved in the battle, piloted by Goodwood regular Chris Ward and pretty much surrounded by Cobras, all wanting to snatch a trans-Atlantic victory.
Ward is a skilled pilot, and the E-type in question was a rather quick one, prepared by the now-defunct J.D. Classics. But, off the line, even Ward’s driving prowess couldn’t stop it from being eaten up by a horde of rumbling V8s. By the first corner, he’s behind three of them and there’s another snapping the E-types exhaust.
From then on though, it’s all about Ward’s laser-focussed attack on his American rivals. The howling Jag gradually dispatches the Cobras one-by-one in the course of nine, exhilarating minutes.
Did he go on to win? We won’t spoil the fun, because you can watch the whole race here. And remember that the 2021 RAC TT Celebration is just a few days away, ready for the Cobra vs. E-type battle to be rejoined.
You’ll be able to watch the whole event here on GRR, but if you do wish to head on down to West Sussex there are still a few tickets left. For more information and to purchase visit ticketing.goodwood.com.
