Richard Woolmer has always enjoyed himself here at Goodwood, and he was at his brilliant best behind the wheel of this Austin Healey 3000 Mk1, putting on a remarkable show with what we can only imagine to be the world’s widest smile on his face.
We picked him up through the exit of Lavant where he was… decidedly sideways as he powered out of the second apex onto the Lavant Straight. The camera stuck with him into Woodcote where he got… even more sideways, holding absolutely staggering power slide at a ludicrous angle that even James Deane would be proud of.
It was more of the same through the Chicane, and he flung it again into Madgwick pulling another picture-perfect slide. It’s already a front runner for moment of the weekend, it may not have made for particularly quick times, the Woolmer/Willmott car ended up 20th on the grid, but who cares when the show is this good?
