Saturday at the 2024 Revival marked the first full day of racing, with nine races scheduled to thrill crowds on what was a somewhat drier day at the Goodwood Motor Circuit. But before the action could begin, the track was first graced by the presence of the Meyers Manx beach buggies, celebrating the 60th anniversary of the original model and brightening up the picture immensely as they made their way round.

Then, it was on to the racing, starting with the Goodwood Trophy where the battle for the win went down to the last moments. Following that came Part 1 of the Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy, where pole-sitter Davy Todd ended up with a lot of work to do after a poor start, and then to another race with a Le Mans-style start – Part 1 of the Settrington Cup, contested by motorsport stars of the future in Austin J40 pedal cars.

The afternoon saw the 1955-1960s production-based sportscars of the Fordwater Trophy take to the circuit, with a close battle between the Austin-Healey 100/6 of Tim Crighton and the Jaguar XK150 of Marc Gordon, followed by the celebration of  John Surtees with a parade of bikes and cars from across the great man’s career. And on the theme of racing greats, the stars were out for Part 1 of the St. Mary’s Trophy presented by Motul, where Alex Buncombe fought hard in his Austin Mini Cooper S to keep the beasts of the field behind him and Romain Dumas stole the show in his 1963 Ford Galaxie 500.

The little 1,100cc sportscars of the Madgwick Cup were next to run on the track in a race full of incidents, ahead of the final parade of the day celebrating 75 years of the Jaguar XK engine with a flurry of glamourous vehicles cruising round the Motor Circuit. The penultimate race of the day was the Whitsun Trophy presented by Sky – a race of attrition between James Davison, on pole in his McLaren-Chevrolet M1B, and a chasing pack ready to pounce. And as the sun began to set, the pre-1963 GT cars of the Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy, where Jimmie Johnson climbed through the grid in his 1960 Aston Martin DB4GT delivered the thrills the race promised.

Saturday may have flashed by in a blizzard of motorsport madness, but every second of the day can be relieved here with this full day replay.
