Video: Incredible BRM V16 sounds insane at Goodwood

It’s barely been half an hour, and we’ve already been treated to the unholy sound of this BRM Type 15’s V16 engine. Possibly the most incredible sound of the entire Revival m...

We’ve made this video to give you an idea of what it sounds like as it hurtles round the Motor Circuit as part of the Goodwood Trophy field for pre-war grand prix cars and voiturettes. That sound is backed up by plenty of power, made evident as we see Rob Hall steaming through a pack of cars along the start/finish straight.

Even among a field of highly distinct and eye-catching cars, this BRM stands out. That large square grille is instantly recognisable at the leading edge of that long bonnet covering that stunning 1.5-litre V16 engine.

How did they even do it? The idea of squeezing 16 cylinders into such a tiny engine seems utterly implausible, and yet it exists, and we’re so glad that it does. The sound is absolutely phenomenal.

Don’t forget you can catch this car in action once more in the Goodwood Trophy race on Saturday morning, scheduled to begin at 09:35. We’ll be standing out by the start line to hear it with our own ears. If you’re planning to be attendance, ear protection is advised.
