Seven TT stars to race at Goodwood Revival

The grid for this year’s Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy will feature some of the biggest names from the island, including the winners of Monday’s Superbike and Supersport races, Peter Hickman and Lee Johnston.

Snaefell Mountain Course lap record holder (at an eye-watering average of 135.452mph) Hickman will swap his BMW Superbike race-winning S1000RR for a Manx Norton, while Supersport victor Johnston will once again climb aboard the Black Eagle Racing team’s MV Agusta, which he twice took to the podium at last August’s Classic TT.

Close on Hickman’s heels, Dean Harrison will also be making his Goodwood debut, joining the grid aboard a Matchless G50. Despite fervent efforts, Harrison is yet to pip Hickman to first place on the infamous Mountain course, managing to hold the lead for the majority of last year’s senior race, before Hickman snatched the win out of his hands in the last few miles of the final lap. Similarly, Harrison finished runner up to Hickman once again in this year’s opening Superbike encounter.

Another rider making his Goodwood Revival debut will be Manxman and podium-frequenter Conor Cummins, who, just this past Monday, took third in the Superbike TT.

James Hillier will return to Goodwood after a strong performance in last year’s Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy, which culminated in a podium finish. Meanwhile, Goodwood regulars, and two of the TT’s most successful riders, 23-time TT-winner John McGuinness and 18-time winner Michael Dunlop, will ride a Matchless G50 and Manx Norton respectively.

McGuinness previously took overall victory in 2016, and a comfortable second in last year’s event, while Dunlop, paired with his brother William, looked set to reign victorious in 2017, before engine trouble put an end to their blistering pace.
